Each year, an average of 9,000 youth commit violent crimes in Jefferson County. 36% of those youth will re-offend as youth and 40% will be incarcerated as adults. Shakespeare Behind Bars (SBB) believes it is imperative to create transformational programs that provide incarcerated youth with the tools they need to work towards a future outside the correctional institutions and thereby reduce the rate of youth who will commit crimes that will lead to their spending their adult lives behind bars. The SBB Juvenile Arts Program employs the same vision, mission, values, and techniques that have proven successful in the adult SBB program founded in 1995 at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange, KY.
